The flourishing London taco scene has another jewel in its crown. The team at Sonora Taqueria have been a crowd favourite since their days slinging out the finest Sonoran delicacies from their stall at Netil Market in London Fields.

Well known to play host to snaking queues of clamouring punters every Friday and Saturday, the decision was made in September 2022 to seek out pastures new and expand the operation which steadily grew apace following their capitalisation and rise to cult Instagram stardom as a centre piece powerhouse of the meal kit scene during lockdown.
Slinging out the very best pork fat tortillas de harina, along with goose fat and vegan options to boot, Sam and Michelle, the couple behind the brand, kept N/E London postcodes singing the praises of Mexican cuisine throughout the pandemic.

Now the pair have returned from a well earned and thoroughly culinarily enlightening (going off their incredible Instagram stories) research sabbatical in the Sonora region of Mexico that Michelle calls home, they’re ready to open up their official brick and mortar casa in Stoke Newington High Street.

I was lucky enough to be there for their opening day lunch service and after such a long period of anticipation I cannot shout my love for their product loud enough to anyone who’ll give me the time! The queue out of the door as I pulled up from my lunchtime speed bike ride over told me all I needed to know and the food lived up to every flavour fantasy!

I went for a classic taco trio to get me started; Carne Asada, Lager Braised Beef Barbacoa and a crazy extensively marinaded Pork Adobada with pineapple chunks and chilli which was the absolute star of the show but took no shine off the two tacos which were devoured before! Just to top it off they stock my favourite thirst quencher, Jaritos tangerine soda, absolute chefs kiss and a pure essential taco pairing. I cannot wait to get back down there ASAP and trust me when I say that menu will be completed way before what would be considered healthy.
