Cookie Time Cookie Bar, Queenstown.
A chocolate chip feast fit for any Cookie Monster!
Cookie Time is a family owned Kiwi institution, founded in Christchurch in the 80s it was made famous by their 1996 Guinness World Record for the world’s largest cookie, coming in at a stomach stuffing 487m² this baked behemoth included 13 tonnes of ingredients and more than 1 million chocolate chips!
Today they have 3 franchise Cookie Bars where you can sample the very best offerings the team can cook up, fresh every the hour. One out in Harajuku, Japan while the other two are slightly closer to their South Island roots in Dunedin and Queenstown. The Queenstown cookie bar was the inaugural brick and mortar, opened in 2010, and it captured my affection whole heartedly, the intoxicating aroma of its freshly baked dough and melting chocolate pulling me down Ballarat Street by the nostrils.
Cookie Time specialises in a masterful edition of the classic gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie and all of their incredible thick shakes come topped with cookie chunks, with whole fresh baked cookies sandwiching a marshmallow speared onto the straws for that added extra bit of diabetic overkill (not that I’m complaining one bit, bring it on!)
With a serious selection of cookie creations and ice cream flavours to choose from the opportunities for indulgence are almost endless. Just to put the cherry on the cake they dip the cup in melted chocolate so you can look properly greedy as you literally lick it clean!
The delicious juxtaposition of the warm dough melting into the palette against the cool fluffy ice cream served up and enjoyed in the most incredible scenery New Zealand has to offer is truly a heart warming sensation not to be overlooked or underappreciated!
